Publish America - Publishing Writers' and Authors' Manuscripts
-- I must say that if it were not for Publish America, my dreams to open Roseberry Books and actually start my writing career would not have come true. For struggling authors, this is a good company to start with--despite the negative press they get for churning out books. They involved me in every step of the publishing process and I found it to be the grass-roots way to learn book marketing and publishing trends. Check them out. The drawbacks for the company that has caused them to get slammed involves the following:1. Limited editing. Dear author, before a book goes to a publisher, it should be in the best shape possible--with no errors or other mistakes. Show some respect and make it your best work BEFORE you send it to a publisher--ANY publisher. There is only a limited amount of time that editors can have for each book project. If it's spent rewriting and corecting what you should have taken care of first, then you deserve what you get.
2. Limited (or no) marketing. Read the contract. They spell out very carefully what they will be doing. Marketing falls to the author for this company. And in reality, marketing is a major part of the author's responsibility for EVERY publishing company. This one does do less than others, but you do have a good looking product in hand and a good website that gets traffic--make use of it. Or don't sign the contract.
3. High-priced books. This is one thing the author has no control over and spurred my only negative feeling about the company. It is definitely harder to sell a more expensive book when other companies provide good products that are competitive. It's an issue to consider.
So, take a look--they show their contract right online. And if you get the chance, look at their listing for Rodenticider at the following link!
Broad
Universe

and promote women writing science fiction, fantasy, and horror. They
have a great message board and I was given my first public reading opportunity in
Philadelphia at the PHILCON science fiction convention in 2002 through this
group.
SciFan: Books & Links for the Science Fiction Fan
-- the latest scuttlebutt on your sci fi favorites. And if that happens to be one of the authors listed on this site ..... click here to see what people say!Mid Atlantic Horror.org -- The MAHP (Mid-Atlantic Horror Professionals) is a non-profit coalition of affiliated horror industry professionals residing in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington DC.
Double Dragon Publishing -- Double Dragon eBooks is responsible for the publication of eBook, trade paperback and hard cover titles in a variety of genres. By far, this is the largest division under the DDP umbrella with over 200 titles in eight different formats with a global distribution network that spans North American and the United Kingdom. Drop my name and mention this site -- This is a great place to begin an e-book career! And now they provide paperback versions as well. The website draws tremendous traffic--a great marketing tool.
